Random stuff, in no particular order about no particular subject(s) whatever.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

...oh, and don't be fooled. I often ramble here several times a day. Really, I know I should be doing something else - but don't TELL.

QOTD

Question of the day....

When you (generic you) make a phone call, to a cell phone or home phone, do you hang up if no one answers or leave a message?

It drives me CRAZY that Number One Son makes calls and then hangs up if no one answers. Always has. And he. just. doesn't. get. it.

Is it just me?

Second question: How much freedom do you give a 13 year old? The rules have all changed since I was 13 back in the dark ages.

Gotta run, Rude Teenage Son is impatiently waiting for me to take him to a friend's house. Isn't this why I got his bike fixed?

Later.

I generally leave a message unless the person is a close personal friend and I know they have caller ID (and in those instances, I sometimes leave messages). We give 10 year old Buddy quite a bit of freedom (i.e. I would leave him home alone for short trips out if he'd stay by himself. LOL).

I don't mind leaving him home alone, or even have him watch his sister once on while, but I'm thinking about freedoms like riding his bike into town to go the library or pizza place, or visiting friends while the parents are at work, or stuff like that.

Mostly it's a concern about what could happen when several middle school kids (boys) are hanging out together unsupervised in the summer.

If I'm calling my mom or DH, I don't leave a message, unless it's an emergency. They see my number pop up, and they know who's calling. Others, I leave a message.

Several of Allison's friends have the nasty habit of calling repeatedly, even if the machine picks up. We screen calls during dinner and when we're busy with things. Chances are, if I didn't pick up the phone the first time you called, I'm not going to pick it up 2 seconds later.

Yeah, my son (who at 13 should definitely know better) calls, gets the machine, then hangs up. Then calls back. Arrggghh
Or he'll call, leave a message and want to call back 5 minutes later.

I never leave messages for people I know don't check them, like my husband. Otherwise, always. It's just RUDE.

M just turned 13 on Sunday, I just started letting her go places alone. Like the mall. DEAR GODS I am a brave woman. Or stupid.

Probably stupid.

I don't think there is any hard and fast rule, you have to go kid by kid.
