Okay, when my kids were young, I breastfed them. I had nothing against formula - I used it on occasion when I had someone else watching them or I couldn't nurse. But I believed "breast is best" - it was convenient (no boiling water and mixing formula), cheap (duh!), easy, and comforting - for my children and for me. It was a forced slow-down, moments of quiet and respite from the craziness. I loved that stage of their lives and my life.
I let both of my children decide when they were ready to move on. I was in no rush, but as they became mobile and independent, they preferred to drink from a cup and be able to look around. They were both between 13 and 15 months old when they weaned. I would have let them continue - maybe (for me) until 2 years old. I was in no rush, but I do think there's a developmental milestone that kids reach at different ages - like learning to walk, potty train, read.
But check out this YouTube video . I think it's truly bizarre. Go ahead, check it out - it's a woman who's still breastfeeding her 8 year old. Yes, I know the video is a few years old, but it's still strange.
